Haritalika Teej: A Festival of Love, Faith and Devotion

Haritalika Teej is one of the most important Hindu festivals celebrated mainly by women in India and Nepal. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva and symbolizes love, devotion, marital happiness, and the strength of a woman’s faith.

On this auspicious occasion, married women observe a fast and pray for the long life, good health, and prosperity of their husbands. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati performed severe penance for many years to win Lord Shiva as her husband. Her devotion and determination finally brought her together with Lord Shiva. Haritalika Teej is therefore celebrated as a symbol of true love, dedication, and determination.Temples are beautifully decorated, and women offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. In many places, special pujas and cultural programmes are organized. Traditional sweets and delicious food are also prepared for the festival.
